The idea of traveling the world and working remotely may seem like a fairytale dream for many individuals. They think that this is only for top company executives who earn large salaries and have expensive jets. Once upon a time, Mike Swigunski had this same mindset. Today, he knows better.
The remote work leader, bestselling author, and founder of GlobalCareerBook.com, did not know that this would be his reality. From mountain peaks in Sri Lanka to pyramids in Egypt, Mike has traveled the world and worked remotely. He now shares his knowledge through his book Global Career: How to Work Anywhere and Travel Forever (Become a Digital Nomad Today with Remote Work!).
As an online business expert who has brokered millions of dollars in digital assets and helped build an eight-figure remote company, he has cultivated a strong passion and knowledge for everything within the remote work realm. Mike is focused on transforming the way location-independent work and business synergize. After more than a decade of working remotely and internationally in more than 85 countries, Mike has built a unique full-circle perspective of the remote workforce. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience to help others succeed.
A One-Way Ticket to Prague
Born and raised in Wildwood, Missouri, Mike always had a sense of adventure as a kid. In college, he studied abroad in Bergamo, Italy, in 2009 and caught the travel bug. After falling in love with traveling and living overseas, Mike knew this was the life he wanted to pursue.
He applied to become a study abroad student manager and was selected to lead students to Prague. After leading more than 100 students over two years, Mike was hooked on an international life and decided to follow the alternative path and move to Prague after graduating.
Armed with his degree and many possibilities, Mike could have decided to climb the corporate ladder. Instead, he booked a one-way ticket to Prague without any job opportunities lined up.
Once he arrived and wrapped up his final study abroad program, Mike utilized his Czech connections and relationships to jumpstart his job hunt. His strong relationship and success with the Czech university got him a position teaching Financial Economics.
A Love for Travel
Mike considered this first step as proof of concept, and once he realized that he could continue traveling while building a sustainable global career, he set out to replicate it.
Eventually, Mike would enter the remote workforce and even help develop an eight-figure remote company and one of the USA’s fastest-growing companies.
Mike loves to travel and encourages others to use this as an opportunity to really get immersed in the culture of another culture. He encourages slow travel as a way to become engaged truly. “Slow travel is one of the most important ways to experience a country past the surface level truly. There is only so much you can see when visiting a city or country for a few days. This is why I always enjoy spending months in a country and connecting with a hybrid of locals and ex-pats whenever I visit a new destination.”
Changing the World Through Remote Work
Mike is on a mission to impact millions of people positively and help while they transition to a remote lifestyle they love! He believes that people need to find their perfect work-to-life balance. This, according to Mike, varies for every individual. Also, he is a firm believer that people should “work to live and not live to work.” Mike provides various services and resources to help anyone interested in becoming a remote worker or digital nomad and building a flexible life.
