Dillon Shamoun, known professionally by his stage name Shamoun, grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Music and the music industry had caught his eye from a young age. “EDM and house music wasn’t mainstream yet but Detroit is where techno music originated. So I grew up around that type of music and always loved it,” he told us. As he grew older, Shamoun was determined to turn this interest into a lifelong career.
While studying management and marketing at Michigan State University, Shamoun taught himself how to produce music. Creating track after track, he began to upload his music to SoundCloud. He quickly gained the support of his peers which led to him DJing local shows throughout college. Shamoun’s ability to quickly produce music also made him a very sought out teacher. Friends and others who had heard of him who were interested in producing music started contacting him to learn the ins and outs of the skill. As the genre of music continued to grow into mainstream popularity, Shamoun found yet another way to apply his talents: music festivals.
Dillon Shamoun joined Prime Social Group in 2017. Prime Social Group is a marketing, artist management and festival production company specializing in the music industry. Shamoun joined as a managing partner specializing in branding and talent acquisition. Throughout his time with Prime Social Group, Shamoun helped coordinate and produce over sixteen music festivals per year all around the world. Some of these festivals include Prime Music Festival, Breakaway Music Festival, Haunted Fest and Abroad Fest. As a talent acquisition specialist, Shamoun met countless A-List artists in the industry. “This was the most crucial part of launching my Shamoun brand,” he said.
Less than a year after creating Shamoun has released several official remixes of songs by top artists like Quavo, Frank Walker and TELYkast. His remixes for Frank Walker and TELYkast were immediate with each already generating over 75,000 streams on Spotify alone.
With many successful remixes completed, Shamoun is focusing on producing more original songs. He chatted with us about his newest release ‘Alone’. Rise’ which was released on April 17, 2021, quickly became a favorite among fans and industry professionals. This is Shamoun’s first original track since ‘Back to the Start’ and it’s clear he definitely did not disappoint.
“I’ve been working on ‘Alone’ for a while now. After having such an amazing response to ‘Back to the Start’ and the remixes I’ve done, I wanted to make sure that my next original song wouldn’t disappoint. When creating it I was definitely inspired by the time I spent producing music festivals. I wanted to be able to recreate that indescribable good vibe and feeling you get at festivals, even if listeners were just sitting at home.”
Shamoun prides himself in his ability to DJ but also produce his own original music. “I like being able to do it all. Nowadays, when people say “DJ” many actually mean music producer. The terms are used interchangeably because most people don’t know that traditional DJs usually did not produce their own music (unlike how current DJs do). When I play a live set I definitely do a balanced mix on my own music and other music,” he said.
