The Duchess of Sussex – Meghan Markle was recently spotted on Saturday, July 13, at the 2019 Wimbledon women’s singles final. She was supporting Serena Williams throughout the tournament. Unfortunately Serena happens to loose the tournament as she was beaten 6-2 by 27-year-old Simona Halep.
After the match, Serena told the reporters – “Just having Meghan in general as a friend is great. Meghan is a great friend and a great person as well. She is always very positive no matter what and it’s so good to have such positive people around.”
Serena Williams Gushes Over BFF Meghan Markle, and further added that – “Meghan is a big fan of the Wimbledon sport and she too is happy for Simona winning the championship where she played unbelievable. Meghan is one among those kinds of folks who always appreciates everyone in any given circumstances.”
This 27-year-old Simona Halep is the first tennis star from Romania to capture the title who played magnificently well against the 37-year-old seven-time Wimbledon champion – Serena Williams. To see them play Meghan had come with her sister-in-law Kate Middleton and with the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister Pippa Middleton. The three of them watched the match from the Royal Box at Centre Court, marking the first joint solo outing for the duchesses in a year.
In the past also Meghan had gone to cheer Serena at the women’s singles second round match against Slovakia’s Kaja Juvan earlier this month. She was accompanied by two friends then.
Meghan and Serena know each other since 2014. They got in connection when they played on the same team at DIRECTV’s Celebrity Beach Bowl. Meghan has mentioned in her now-shuttered lifestyle website The Tig that – “the two of them got hit off immediately. They became close and used to take pictures and laugh through the flag football game in which they both were playing in. They used to always keep chatting about all the good old fashioned girly stuff and not about tennis or acting.”
The royal wedding of Meghan to Harry in 2018 was attended by both Serena and her husband Alexis Ohanian. Serena had also co-hosted a baby shower for her friend Meghan in New York earlier this year.
