The Tennessee residents shall soon hear a lot of news in the upcoming months with regards to the “Education Savings Accounts”, also known as “ESAs”. On Monday night, Bill Lee, the Republican Governor addressed during the first State of the State Address that there shall be a proposal of $25.5 Million Dollar for the Education Voucher Program which is apparently among the list of controversial tags.
In his statement, Lee mentioned that they want to efficiently target this particular program around the districts with highest number for failing schools. The current target area as of now is the urban areas in the state. Voucher-based programs such as the ESAs actually failed back in the past. However, the governor brings out the fact that support arrives from the top class Republican leaders such as Glen Casada, the House Speaker, and Randy McNally, the Lt. Governor.
Governor Lee said to the reporters that a good chunk of conversations organized with the lawmakers were particularly encouraging. Now the state wants the Tennesseans to understand this effort and give way to new changes. In the broad outlook, this ESA program outlined by Lee’s Administration shall initially serve around 5000 students.
