In a recent interview with the German media, Kasra Mehdipournejad defined the sport of Taekwondo and other martial arts and pointed out some of their features.
“Taekwondo and other martial arts have a philosophy and a history, so we need to know them to get a better understanding of those sports,” he said. He continued that Taekwondo and other martial arts have different techniques. There are also many differences in the practice of these sports, and they have changed over time.
Regarding the history of martial arts, he said that in ancient times, man had nothing more than an empty hand to defend himself, so he naturally resorted to struggles based on this empty hand. Later, as weapons began to be developed for attack or defense, people again enjoyed empty-handed combat, this time to strengthen their physical strength. For example, some tribes had a particular style of fighting. And in competitions where people slowly gained experience in each other’s fighting techniques, these same defenses and attacks of the people of that time are one of the sources of our analysis today.
He divides Taekwondo into Old and New Taekwondo, and says that in modern Taekwondo, after the end of the war and the liberation of Korea, the country’s traditional martial arts were largely mixed with Japanese disciplines such as karate and judo. Korean martial artists also introduced them to Korea by learning Chinese martial arts. And the current name of Taekwondo was known by other terms, and since then the name Taekwondo came into being.
Kasra Mehdipournejad, the Iranian taekwondo champion in international tournaments, has many medals. He has two medals in 2019, gold and silver, and in 2018 he has five medals, two golds, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
