When you get to the dizzying heights that Steph Curry has reached over his consistently successful career, you can imagine that the Golden State Warriors star has gotten used to a certain level of treatment reserved for unstoppable talents. It seems that recent attempts to rein him in haven’t best-pleased coach Steve Kerr.
During the Golden State Warriors 88-110 loss to the Boston Celtics, Curry injured his foot after his leg was rolled over by Celtics’ Marcus Stuart, something that has led to the player having to have an MRI scan after the game.
The Golden State Warriors are now one of the favorites for the NBA title. To see the odds offered by the big sports betting brands, check this website, and any long-term injury to a player of Curry’s stature is sure to have an effect on their hopes in this endeavor.
Steve Kerr’s side sits in the third spot in the Western Conference with an impressive 47-23 record, and over the course of the season, Curry has hit many milestones and simply can’t be beaten when it comes to three-point range attempts, and the Warriors’ coach was visibly upset at the way his star player was handled by the Celtics.
“I thought it was a dangerous play,”
“I thought Marcus dove into Steph, and that’s what I was upset about. A lot of respect for Marcus. He’s a hell of a player, a gamer, a competitor. I coached him in the World Cup a few summers ago. We talked after the game, and we’re good. But I thought it was a dangerous play.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Marcus Smart had other ideas about the play, claiming;
“I saw the ball, I dove for the ball, trying to make a play,”
“Unfortunately, that occurred.”
“I’m sure I’m going to get called dirty. But I know who I am. … I play very hard, and I leave everything on the court. … My teammates, my colleagues, they know I’m not a dirty player.” Smart added.
The MRI revealed that Curry had suffered a ligament sprain and that he will be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks.
That assessment will no doubt come as a relief for Kerr and the Warriors as they may have feared a longer period out. Golden State has had their fair share of injury concerns but is now coming back closer to a full roster.
In January, Klay Thompson made a long-awaited return after two and a half years out with an ACL injury. Draymond Green has also just returned from a two-month layoff, and Kerr will hope to have all his best players available when the playoffs appear on the horizon.
Curry is into his 13th season at the Chase Center, and having helped play a key part in taking the Warriors to the postseason for seven successive seasons, between 2013 and 2019, things haven’t been quite so good in recent years.
This season looks like being a return to the Warriors of old, and Curry is well placed to collect his fourth NBA championship ring.
