The New York state’s Reproductive Health Law act came into force this January. Andrew Cuomo caught President Donald Trump’s attention by being the source of disagreement between opponents and supporters of the law passed.
The chairman of the Conservative Party of New York State, Michael Long in a radio interview criticized the new law. As all the criminal penalties are removed, a woman after giving birth to a baby is allowed to discuss with a doctor; if by chance the baby is born alive they would just let the baby to die.
Long stated that he is pretty sure that the law did not spell out about letting the babies expire but as the law allows abortion in late pregnancy stage, the question is what will exactly happen to the babies born alive.
Kathleen Gallagher said that the new law annuls part of the state’s Public Health Law. The annulled part states that a second doctor must be present during abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy in order to take control and provide immediate medical care for any live birth as a result of abortion. This child should be provided with immediate legal protection too.
A representative of the National Right to Life organization took note of the repealed sections of the Public Health Law.
