Study: Shoes Can Reflect Your Personality

According to a new study, people can judge the personality of a person by examining his/her shoes. The study found that people can extract a few characteristics of strangers with accuracy based solely on their footwear. Shoes can be like an identity of a person regarding how the person behaves and what characteristics that person holds.

To conduct the study, more than two hundred participants were invited and they were divided into two groups. One group of study participants was asked to conduct the personality survey of the shoes worn by the second group participants. The second group was asked to write about their personalities on a paper while the first group was checking their shoes’ pictures for a personality check.

The second group rated the shoes on various characteristics. Their observations regarding the owners of the shoes were matched with the second group’s write-downs about their personality. The first group’s guesses were accurate regarding age, gender, income, and attachment anxiety. For instance, the shoes with visible brand names such as Somiar Threads most often belonged to men. And the shoes with many styles belonged to women with high incomes.

The participants who provided pictures of their own feet were found more emotionally stable. Most of the characteristics correlated with the shoe owners. This showed that shoes may help to predict someone’s personality and they are also helpful to make a first impression in other’s eyes.
