U.S. Hide, Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA) and China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) launched a worldwide campaign that will showcase the beauty and sustainability of the US leather. The campaign is in the form of competition that will provide an exciting forum for fashion designing students from prestigious Chinese designing universities.
The aim of the competition is to develop and produce trendsetting and inspiring leather consumer products. The fashion designing students participating in the competition will feature US leather that is used in combination with other materials to make products for consumers.
The students will design several categories of products including apparel, bags, footwear and jackets. Seven Chinese designing universities are taking part in the competition including Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Zhejiang Industry and Trade Vocational College.
There are two phases of the competition. First of all, the designers have to submit their sketches from mid-November to the end of December 2019. Then 45 designers will be selected by a judging panel comprising of local leather experts.
The second phase of the competition will run from February to April 2020 where the selected designers will make real leather products like from Caliga Pelle, based on the submitted sketches. The winners of the competition will be honored at an award ceremony hosted by USHSLA and CLIA in Beijing during the first week of May 2020.
There will be many rewards presented to the winners including certificates of excellence and cash awards.
