A show dog that had been missing from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for three days was found after a meticulous rescue operation.
A 22-month-old pure-bred American Staffordshire terrier ,Gale, was all set to fly back home to Amsterdam when she boarded the KLM flight with her owner Floris van Essen. However, within 10 minutes after boarding, airport staff apparently reported the dog missing from her crate. It is unknown how the dog managed to escape from her crate in which she was secured after security checks.
Airport staff continued to search for the dog while the owner was requested to board the flight.
“Our Airside Operations team – which includes two wildlife biologists – has been engaged in the search throughout our 47 hundred acre campus. Our various partners, including the FAA, CBP, and airlines, are aware and monitoring the airfield”, commented the airport officials.
The owners posted on Facebook requesting for anyone to have seen the dog to contact them.
A unified operation involving the Airport staff and KLM airlines have succeeded in the ordeal to find the dog after days of its missing from one of the busiest airports in the world.
Gale, is now reunited with her owner in Atlanta.
Nevertheless, there have been instances of pets being lost at the Airport according to previous reports. A cat which went missing from JFK airport in Queens, N.Y in last April, was found a week later.
In August, an emotional support dog, a Labradoodle, missed to board the flight due to mishandling by the staff of LATAM Airlines at the JFK airport. The dog vanished from an airline staff member’s house who resorted to taking it home seeing that it missed to board the right flight.
