Norwich: Louise Harvey, a beauty therapist, died because of a blood clot after her breast implant and tummy tuck surgery. As per reports, she was not given proper medication which caused her, her life. She underwent a double operation at a private clinic run by the leading UK-based cosmetic surgery company Transform for £7,000.
The 36-year old mother, who had a serious history of blood clots in her family, died 17-days after the operation due to a complication of blood clots.
As per the pre-inquest hearing, it has been told that Harvey was not prescribed the minimum dose of anticoagulant blood-thinning medicines to prevent blood clots in her body. She was prescribed a single dose of the drugs only during her stay in the hospital and no drugs were prescribed for her to take at home.
Her sister and grandmother had already suffered from deep vein thrombosis due to blood clots, so even after knowing her family history of blood clots, the drugs were not prescribed to her by the doctors.
Chris Mellor, the representative for Transform has said that there are no firm guidelines for prescribing the anticoagulant drugs to the patients. He has also added that the clinic has a video which shows the mobility of Harvey when she was being discharged. He has also stated that the company has improved its guidelines and protocols since Harvey’s death.
The spokesperson for Transform commented that the whole team of Transform is deeply saddened by the death of Ms. Harvey and have undertaken a full internal investigation in the matter. He shared his thoughts and sincere condolences with the patient’s family.
Lawyer Tim Deeming who is the acting attorney on behalf of Harvey’s family has said after the hearing that they want full answers as to how such prescriptions errors took place and what the company has done to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
