While the government has been preparing for the legalization of cannabis based edibles in the month of October, Delta is now readying the arguments to be made on how cannabis-based edible market can be regulated.
Sean McGill, the city managed told the council that the prime concern for the city with regards to cannabis is the way these edible products look and appeal to the young mass. With the mayor being delegated to Ottawa in the upcoming week, these concerns shall be presented before the officials along with the packaging of edibles as they meet the federal legislators.
McGill mentioned in his statement that there are several news stories of young individuals accessing these things mistaking them for gummy bears and similar brightly colored treats. Now, the biggest concern here is the fact that children might overdose on these items if mistaken for candies leading to grave consequences.
The packaging needs to be resistant to children with labels that effectively indicate it being a cannabis product. Additionally, it should also include health related warnings for everyone who might use the same. Further, the council wants the products to be prohibited from making claims with regards to health or nutrition benefits.
