Growing up in Sinaloa, Mexico, Misael Guerrero first came into contact with the food industry through his parents, who operated grocery stores and restaurants. Misael would help out at his parents’ businesses and would cook as well. Misael learned to love the food he worked with growing up and would go on to pursue food-related entrepreneurial endeavors when he came to California 12 years ago.
Misael started out selling tamales at a small stand outside of a swap meet. Although he started small, people began to love the food Misael was making. Unfortunately, Misael had to stop selling tamales after getting a fine from the city. It was around this time that Misael realized that nobody sold Mexican-style sushi in the area, which was a very popular dish in Misael’s home state of Sinaloa, Mexico. Misael took this idea and ran with it, and began to sell Mexican sushi from his garage.
Misael’s garage-based sushi shop attracted customers that knew his cooking from his days selling tamales. News about his new business spread quickly by word of mouth, and he grew quite a customer base. This small business would grow into what is known today as CulichiTown, and Misael moved into his first small restaurant in Rialto, California. Misael received great success starting on his opening weekend, and the support for his CulichiTown restaurant continued to grow. Fast forward to 2020, and CulichiTown has grown to become a 15-restaurant franchise with locations spanning across the nations. Misael has grown his humble beginnings into a restaurant empire through his hard work and dedication to his craft. More locations are planned to open in the future.
