Brett Knutson, strikingly said serial entrepreneur, is the modern day inventor of startups and credited for starting multiple seven to eight figure companies across various industries. Some of his past ventures include Mediphone , Hive, and Amare. Kicking off his entrepreneurship at the age of eighteen, he has built a name that appropriately encapsulates his career and work. In a recent interview Brett sits down to answer some of the most asked questions he receives.
M: You are often called a serial entrepreneur; how old were you when you knew you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
B: I met my first entrepreneur when I was 18, it was a guy who was the father of some girls I went to highschool with that were a couple years older than me. They didn’t live in the town I lived in, they lived in a town a little further away, he was a commercial real estate developer and he had sold his portfolio at 42 years old for over 140 million dollars. He saw something in me apparently that made him want to take me under his wing. He was my first mentor, and we actually ended up starting our own business together, it was my very first company. I raised 6 figures in funding from family and friends.
Brett then goes on to explain how this first business venture was a failure , but that’s just a part of the entrepreneurial journey. Even though it drove him to rock bottom , he was able to bounce back and get right back on track, “Hive was a venture backed company, we raised millions of dollars in Silicon Valley. I didn’t know anybody, not one soul, in the Valley of the Bay area, so I was sleeping on the floor of an illegally modified house with a bunch of other people. There was a family of 7 living in one of the rooms, every single part of the house was modified to be a bedroom, even the garage”.
Brett ends the interview with a piece of advice , stating, “ You have to take advice from people in the specific area that you want to succeed in”. His innovative strategies, genuine passion for helping others and ability to create good business will keep him at the top for a long time coming.
