Camping is such an awesome means of enjoying the outside whilst getting a memorable, healthy break in to make your day to day desk life all the easier. That being said, in order for this exchange to be successful, we have to ensure that we are giving back as much as we are putting in when we’re at the campground. The environment depends on us being responsible, conscious campers (and just humans), and just by doing homework on the matter you’re already one step closer to be the most eco-friendly, positive minded camper that you can be. Without further ado, here are seven ways to be a good, happy camper this season…
Pick up
First things first, littering. Now, on a normal day, not one single one of us should even think about littering, no matter where we are in the world. This becomes even more true when you’re out in nature, having a glorious time camping. You need to respect the land that you’re getting so much joy and peace out of, otherwise, it might not be there in your or your children’s future. Pick up after yourself always.
Keep it clean
Keeping your site area nice and clean is a sure way of being a good, responsible camper. Nobody likes mess, it’s stressful, chaotic and downright annoying to look at when you’ve come to the campground for a break from the busyness of day to day life. Clean up your site, sanitise the camp kitchen or barbecue after you use it and ensure that your spot looks exactly as it did before you arrived when you’re packing up to head home.
Ask your neighbours
If you’re camping with young ones, dogs or planning on doing anything slightly out of whack whilst you’re spending time at your campground of choice, be sure to pop your head round to your neighbours and double check that everything is ok. You’d be surprised at how much anger, irritation or conflict can be saved with a simple check in. A caring site neighbour is a good site neighbour.
When you can, stay close to home
If you’re taking your camping consciousness really seriously, try and keep it short, sweet and often instead of trawling off halfway across the country every time you feel like kicking it back in the great outdoors. Explore your local area, get to know your community and discover a few close to home hidden gems. This is kind to the environment and makes camping simpler for you and your clan.
Stay mindful of sensory pollution
It’s not just mess and litter that you need to keep an eye on during your camping holidays, you should also make an effort to limit the amount of noise, scent and light pollution that you’re putting out into the campground. The golden rule to follow is to treat everyone just as you’d like to be treated, if you think it’s going to bother people around you or you know that it would likely get on your nerves if the shoe was on the other foot, then it’s really best just not to do it.
Arrive early
Arrive nice and early to avoid causing a noisy ruckus late at night. If you’re a bit of a beginner to the game of camp site set up, do your research and check out camper trailer setup ideas to set you off on the right foot.
Be friendly, open and mindful
Finally, just be kind, friendly and mindful to your environment and your fellow campers. Being nice and considerate will get you so far in every aspect of your life, plus manners cost nothing.
