ASCO makes aircraft’s small and large parts. But currently, it is out of operation due to a cyber attack held on 7th June. ASCO got to know about the attack when its employees were told on 10th June that they are technically unemployed now. The company manager told the higher authorities about the cyber attack. The authorities have filed a complaint against unknown people on 11th June and decided to keep the company’s entire operations shut down till further notice.
In May 2018, SRIF, the parent owner of the company, was taken over at US$650 million by Spirit Aerospace. Two months ago, the European Commission had approved the acquisition of the company by US-based Spirit Aerospace. The aviation industry has a record when another company purchases a company. The second company keeps the system legacy of the previous owner, which increases the chances of privacy and security breaches.
The hackers have not revealed their demand yet, but they decrypted the entire data of the company with a sophisticated program. The cyber experts and manufacturer of many companies are saying not to fulfill the demands of hackers because we pay them to become a victim again.
