Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian President is now looking forward to add more changes to the existing education system in the country. The officials at Brazil recently announced their plan to remove any subject related to violence against the women population, homosexuality, and feminism from the textbooks at school.
It is also being said that the military might take over the public schools. Bolsonaro along with other officials do not gel well with the ideas laid out by Paulo Freire, a famous Brazil based educator. This announcement concerns several teachers as well as education officials. They commented that the government actually wants to go against an enemy which doesn’t actually exist.
Students might not locate any differences when they get back to the school. However, these changes shall take effect pretty soon. For the Brazilian government, this ideological battle starts with removal of the legacy left over by Freire in the schools.
Bolsonaro and many others mention that Freire’s thought pattern turns the students into “Political Militants”. They also mentioned that his methods encourage the students to work up against the traditional values like the church and family morale. Freire actually believed in government dedicating themselves in educating the Brazilians which includes the ones unable to study or poor farmers. However, the government actually believes that this responsibility should be carried out by religious or private schools.
