California legislature has given the final touch to the budget trailer bill on 27th June, which will extend the validity of provisional business licenses of cannabis companies. The state has extended the licenses of the companies involved in cannabis business up to 2022. Earlier on 24th June, California senate had passed Assembly Bill 97 easily on 57-12 votes.
The bill is now waiting for the sign of California’s Governor, Gavin Newsom. Last year, the California legislature had decided to issue full annual provisional licenses to the people who are involved in the cannabis business. They must renew their licenses every year. But this decision was not working well as the number of cannabis people sounded the alarm that their temporary licenses are expiring. Cannabis Business Law Firm California has full information about the new bill passed by California Legislature.
Lindsay Robinson is executive director of the California Cannabis Industry Association (CCIA). He said, “Thousands of cannabis operators saw their temporary licenses fall into expiration due to extensive processing of annual licenses by state agencies, CCIA encourages the Newsom administration to prioritize increased collaboration with the cannabis industry, the Legislature, and the regulatory agencies in order to create a comprehensive plan that will streamline business operations, prioritize public safety and health and minimize the growing illicit market.”
The bill also has a strict rule against illegal cannabis business. Persons found in unlawful activities will be punished with $30,000 per day. The fine can be taken by any of these three licensing agencies namely, the Bureau of Cannabis Control, Department of Food and Agriculture and Department of Public Health.
