Cancer is more than just a malignancy. It is an inexpressible pain and sorrow for those going through the disease. Furthermore, it isn’t just a disease manifesting itself as pain for the patient alone, but it also affects those around the patient. Our bodies have been structured with innate immunity to fights risks which may bring about diseases and disrupt the working of the human body. However, this immunity doesn’t necessarily mean that we have eradicated those risk factors from being manifested forever. We can limit the occurrence of a disease, but certain risk factors act much more vaguely. For example, a common form of cancer is skin cancer which is predominantly caused by over-exposure to the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. We cannot eliminate the sun, and sometimes we disregard any disease that may be caused by overexposure
Once the disease manifests itself as a malignancy, there is very little to no chances of coming back from it. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death nationwide. There are numerous variations of the malignancy such as leukemia, thyroid cancer, and oral cancer to name a few.
Constant chemotherapy and medical procedures take away much more than strength from a patient. In most cases, patients have expressed concerns over rehabilitation into society following their treatments. This is due to the fact that most survivors lose confidence within themselves and begin to feel uneasy in their bodies.
Founders of the Hope beneficiary, Suzanne and Samina have been working with acclaimed and renowned model like Can Muhammed Karagoz in helping these stage 4 cancer survivors feel comfortable in their skin post-chemotherapy. Can have traveled all the way from across New York to Dallas where these fashion shows are held and provide insightful tips and words of encouragement for the participants. The survivors aren’t made to feel like patients following surgery, they’re made to feel like genuine models by reminding them that they are in fact beautiful and the disease has taken nothing away from them.
Losing your self-confidence is the first step into the descent into unimaginable self-doubt and sorrow. Enterprises such as the Hope organization work with re-establishing the malignancy survivor’s confidence. Samina loans her Catwalk stage for models while Suzanne brings the stage 4 patients.
These cancer survivors have gone through intensive chemotherapy, and have experienced numerous medical procedures.
