Epic Games, the developer of world popular game Fortnite, is introducing new security measures to protect players’ accounts. Million of people are playing Fortnite multiplayer game every day and their account security becomes a concerning factor. The developer has said that it is going to roll out text-based multi-factor authentication in the future. Epic Games is declining SMS-based authentication which is very insecure. This move will be beneficial for those users who have a low internet connection to access authenticated applications.
To make the game more secure, Epic Games will start verification of the new accounts through a reputed email checker. This move could be implemented from the starting of the game, but it did not happen. Roll out of the move might be coming from the massive attack of millions of accounts made through fake emails. Epic Games is currently going to deactivate such accounts that have used fake emails for verification purposes. Scammers usually send vulnerable links through such email addresses to steal the personal details of the users. Even hovering on such links could transfer details to the scammers’ database.
The Fortnite developers are continuously working to make users’ passwords more secure. The company is hoping to prevent players from using the same passwords because they can be downloaded from the leaked database. There is no case so far where a user has reported Epic Games for data loss, but the new move of implementing text-based multi-factor and email verification authentication will make the gameplay more secure and will leave the scammers with empty hands.
