Greatness doesn’t happen overnight. It requires years of dedication, sacrifice, and determination to become elite at any craft. This has been particularly true for Ronald Hohmann, who is a professionally ranked tennis player currently playing at Louisiana State University.
Ronald started playing tennis when he was just 4 years old and has been dedicated to the sport ever since. He began playing in tournaments by the age of 6, and began traveling to Florida during school breaks to train by the time he was 12.
When Ronald turned 14, he decided to move to Florida full-time and train there year-round. This was the moment that tennis became something much more serious than just a hobby for him, and the success he’s had since then proves that he made the right decision.
He went on to win a prestigious tournament called the Eddie Herr at 16 and also won back-to-back national tournaments shortly after. He capped off his impressive run by winning the Easter Bowl at 17, winning 9 matches in 9 days, and becoming the first player ever to win the tournament as a qualifier in 52 years of the tournament’s existence. He’s currently ranked the number 1 player at LSU.
Training for over 10 years to become an elite tennis player is no small task. When asked what’s inspired him to continue working hard all these years, Ronald said, “I knew if I kept training hard I would be able to step up and put all my training to use. My family has also been with me 100% of the way, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.” Based on how successful he is and the potential he has in his career, he’s undoubtedly been able to put his training to use.
Now that he’s a leading collegiate athlete, a lot of Ronald’s focus lately has been on the mental part of his game. He’s really honed in on controlling his thoughts on the court, and it has helped him tremendously. Being able to control his temper has allowed his game to flourish, and winning the mental game versus his opponent gives him a huge advantage.
Now that he’s reached the pinnacle of college tennis, Ronald is eager for the next leg of his career. He wants to play on the Pro Tennis Tour full time after college and is more dedicated to the sport than ever before to make that a reality.
