Prince Harry, along with wife Meghan Markle and their young son Archie will give up their royal titles coming spring. Canada will be home for these three new part-time residents after that. But the young family like most other visitors to the country, can live in Canada for up to six months at a time. For an extended stay they will need to apply for an extension of 30 days before the end of that period.
The family has decided to split their time between Canada and the U.K., insisting that they will like to live “part-time” in Canada. Their immigration hassles will be minor, so there has been a speculation whether the former royals will qualify for permanent residency or even citizenship. U.K. is a visa-exempt country for travel to Canada.
Harry is a British citizen so a simple Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is all that is needed. Same rule applies for his son Archie who also has a British passport. It is easier for Meghan as she is an American citizen. She will only need the right travel documents and neither a visitor visa nor an eTA.
It is a little complicated when they decide to work in Canada. Immigration is a complicated process and requires comprehensive paperwork, like giving Canada immigration medical exam, though it would not be much for them due to the family they come from. They will require a work permit depending on what they choose to work in. They will need to prove that they have enough money to take care of themselves and their family members, both during their stay in the country and when they return home and are willing to lave Canada when their work permit expires.
