Although Marc Ryan Effron may be known as the successful business owner he is today, life hasn’t been as easy as you may think. Pulling himself through multiple challenges, Marc shares with us his own story and some tips to those facing similar battles.
Marc’s Background
Becoming the vice president of a large financial firm in his twenties and being known for his bright smile, looking at him you would think Marc loved every part of his life. However, behind all of it, Marc was hurting deep inside. Perhaps caused by his troublesome childhood, Marc turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the feeling of emptiness he felt. This addiction kept dragging him downhill and he eventually he became homeless and estranged from his family.
Pulling himself up
Knowing that he had to change his life around, Marc visited several treatment centers before he was able to come out of that dark place. It wasn’t until that moment that Marc found what his calling is. Noticing that there was no holistic approach to treating substance abuse, Marc decided he wanted to help others by creating a facility that would treat the underlying problem rather than curing just the symptoms.
Seeing a perfect opportunity in South Florida, Marc decided to open up the Legacy Healing Center. Using his passion for helping others, business management expertise, and his first-hand experience of sobriety, Marc has been able to make the clinic one of the most premium behavioral health providers within the USA.
Legacy Healing Center has grown into a multi-state treatment group with more than 155 beds and a staff of more than 200 employees. Legacy Healing Center also contracts with many companies, including American Airlines, to provide corporate mental health training. Accredited for services from detoxification and partial hospitalization programs to outpatient recovery coaching and life skills classes, Legacy Healing Center is staffed with caring and qualified professionals who share his leadership ethos.
Advice to others who are suffering from their mental health
Recent stats have shown, men are nearly three times as likely as women to become dependent on alcohol and drugs. Marc’s advice to those who are facing similar difficulties as he once did, is to accept you are in a dark place and have the courage to ask for help. It may be hard dropping your ego and feeling you may compromise your status, but know this is the only way for others to be able to give you their support.
Marc also advises anyone going through tough times “You’ve got this, even when it looks like you don’t”. There are times as a business owner or just a normal person, that you question yourself on what you are doing. Negative thoughts can come into your mind and pull you down, however, if you really want to achieve your goals in life, you have to have a strong mindset to win. Marc knew he had to have this type of mindset during recovery to get back to his children, so he stuck to it no matter what.
From the story of Marc Effron, it is clear to see life isn’t always as glamorous as it may seem on the outside. However, despite what happens in your life, it is always important to have a strong network around you who are always willing to help.
