The approaching Saturday will see $42 million Lotto Powerball jackpot shoot to a record must-win $50 million after no one won the mammoth prize. Six punters have won first division, winning $166,667 each. But none of the had the Powerball. The bonus number was 13 and the Powerball was 6. The numbers were: 30, 8, 2, 33, 21,3.
The website was experiencing a lag and lapse trying to keep up with the demand as punters were checking their tickets. If the prize doesn’t get struck, then a few more million will be added to it and it will roll over to Saturday. The winner could be living off a yearly income of $844,000 if they put the amount in the bank.
The First Division winning tickets were sold at, Four Square Coopers Beach, Northland; Countdown Mt Eden, Auckland; Trafalgar Lotto, Whanganui; Online in Wellington; Nelson City New World and New World Centre City, Dunedin. More than one million tickets have been sold ahead of tonight’s draw.
The chances of winning Powerball (파워볼) are slim at around one in 38 million. People might think as more people buy tickets the chances of winning will get low. But University of Otago statistician Dr Matthew Parry has said that it is a wrong thinking as the probability of winning doesn’t change according to how many buy the tickets. The chances of winning are always fixed no matter how many people are playing in the lottery.
Dr Parry states that, “It just depends on the numbers that come out [but the] more people play, more people are likely to win so, therefore, your payout slightly gets smaller.”
