Ish Soul has never been one to shy away from exploring suffering though art and his track Love in the Pain, is no exception. The track draws heavily from his past and unpacks, not only, the dark feelings that haunt him, but those that haunt us all.
Themes like loss, love, pride and the fall are universal ones that truly resonate in Ish Soul’s natural flows. And while you can hear the emotional wounds that anchor down on his conscience, his words continue to exude strength. As if dealing with the stages of grief, the artist reflects on the guilt that creeps its way from the past, but he doesn’t allow the track to be consumed by it. His voice may waver but it does not break (a testament to the incredible vocal work that shines through here). He does not absolve himself from guilt, but accepts that penance is within reach; you can forgive yourself.
Above all, Love in the Pain cuts the path to redemption. Ish Soul understands that pain and loss is a regrettable yet necessary part of moving through life. The echoes that close the track show that we may never really forget our pain. The memories will always cast a shadow over our lives as they have done with his. But it is only through pushing on and living our lives that we can eventually… find love in the pain.
