In a recent study, it has been found that a herb named as Panax Ginseng is effective in treating the problem of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) in men. Most of the old age men experience the problem of BPH due to an increase in the size of the prostate gland. The symptoms of this problem include infection in the urinary tract and weak streaming of urination.
Surgery and medicines were the most popular ways for BPH cure in the earlier times. The availability of three types of medicines such as alpha blockers, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, and the phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor Tadalafil has given an easy way to treat BPH problem. But due to some serious adverse effects of these medications on health, researchers have found a new herb, named Panax ginseng, which is used for prostatic hyperplasia treatment in the oriental medicine since a long time.
BPH problem occurs due to the lowering of the levels of Testosterone in the aging men. This simply happens due to the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which acts as a mediator for BPH. DHT is produced due to the synthesis from testosterone with the help of enzyme 5-alpha reductase.
In medical research, it has been found that Panax ginseng helps to inhibit the function of 5-alpha reductase. It eventually leads to slowing down the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. This results in the reversal of many symptoms of BPH and inhibits its growth. Apart from reversing BPH by reducing the production of DHT, Panax ginseng also stimulate the nerves by going directly to the bladder in order to make them function effectively.
