A new case of ransomware attack has been found in Eurofins Scientific’s Lancaster laboratories. The employees of the infected laboratory have been sent back to their homes because the testing complex’s pieces of equipment are infected with the ransomware.
An employee of Eurofins Lancaster laboratory was asked about the attack, but he refused to say anything and suggested to talk to Eurofins Scientific’s officials. Eurofins Scientific had bought Eurofins Lancaster laboratories in 2011.
The company stated that on June 3, unidentified ransomware attacked over its few laboratories located in Lancaster and caused disruption in the operation of some systems. Until now, there is no evidence of unauthorized indication of data misuse.
Previously, many countries have been infected with this ransomware and none of them has identified the variant of the ransomware till now but they preferred to install security solutions like ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware into their network. Many laboratories have been infected due to the attack, and they will be restored for full productivity. Though time table for restoration has not been set yet.
One of Eurofins Scientific officials said, “The new variant was initially non-detectable by the anti-malware screen of our leading global IT security services provider at the time of the attack and required an updated version made available only hours into the attack. ”
Neither Eurofins Scientific’s statement nor its official has revealed which locations are infected with the ransomware and what new variant of ransomware was that. And the company has also not told about the ransom demands yet.
