The locksmith industry today is growing at a very rapid rate. Back in 1970s the art of lock-making wasn’t even appreciated. If someone said, they wanted to be a locksmith, a person would laugh at such a declaration. But now the industry is growing. And Mark Reed is someone who trained himself for years to be the best in the game.
Now there is an advent of smart locks and rise of home surveillance. And many companies like Locksmith Philadelphia are working towards updating people’s homes and offices with these kind of smart locks. But 40 years ago Mark started his journey out of an attached home garage. He worked blood and sweat to make Reed’s Lock and Access Control one of the best in the industry.
Mark used to work for his grandfather’s company during high school and his early married years. But the building business hit a downturn and he lost his earnings. He had to feed his family. So he decided to go back to school and study.
There weren’t many online universities during that time. But he studied “How to be a locksmith”. He thought this job isn’t worth it, and he will starve. But After he studied the lessons, he became a pro at it.
He is the one behind the smart lock revolution. Earlier General Motors released the first automobile to have transponder key- ’85 Corvette. But now all the cars have a wireless entry.
Jill and Mark, both teamed up to revolutionize the smart lock. The pace of the industry was slow, but steady. “Its an industry where very, very much if you don’t evolve with it, you’re going to be in the dust. That’s the reality of it.”, said Jill.
In contemporary times, everyone wants a smart lock. Some want it because it is cool, some want it because it is efficient, some want it because other’s have it. But bottom-line is, everyone wants it.
Reed Locks started back in 1979, when both Mark and Jill became locksmiths. They shifted their business from a back garage, to a defunct bridal shop. Mark’s construction background gave him an upper-hand in creating the company from ground up.
Reeds Lock is now looking forward towards the newest trend in smart lock- The biometrics. “I think it’ll be a while until it reaches us, but biometrics will play a more important role. There are already fingerprint safes out there.”, said Jill.
