Tanya Jonda from One of a Kind Pet Rescue in Akron has said that they saved 53 dogs from a hoarding situation in southern Ohio in early October. She said when they rescued the dogs they were bald, exhausted and were unable to breath properly. All of them were suffering from mange and were petrified. They were cowered and extremely scared. The dogs slowly realized they were in sheltered environment and then started responding to treatment.
The dogs had to go a month for the treatment. Till now 35 of them have found their humans and homes. They were adopted by dog friendly human and seeing them going home with them was a bitter sweet moment for the rescuers. They also gave tips to the owners to look out for any signs if the dogs develop mange in future. People can click here to study signs of mange and how they can take care of their dogs.
The ultimate aim for any shelter is to find a home for the dogs but when it happens it is heart breaking for the staff who has cared for them so many days to part ways. But is is of great relief that the dogs have been healed physically though some of them still carry emotional scars.
A professional behavioral therapist is of real help in such situations but right now the shelter doesn’t have one. They are raising money through Go Fund Me using social media to hire a full time canine behavioral specialist. They need to be retaught to live as a dog, to trust fellow living beings for them to be adoptable.
The dogs that are slow to trust aren’t easily adopted. An organization has come in to pledge the amount and now they have a budget of $22,000.
