Some say life is about finding one’s passion and living it to its fullest. When asked what his passion is, singer song-writer D. Myke sums it up in one sentence: “I love making music.” Though it wasn’t part of his original plan, D. Myke has been making music since his days in high school. “I have a passion for it. It’s just extremely satisfying and fun to make a song that captures an emotion or feeling that will be here forever.”
When asked if his life experiences have influenced his songs, he admits that they have. “Life in general is hard to write about. There are so many different aspects and situations that occur on a daily basis, and to put them in a song or to try and find the words that really express how you feel is always challenging.” His songs aren’t strictly about life’s struggles, however. “Most of my music is about my relationships and experience with women. The majority of my debut album is inspired by women and how they make me feel.”
His newest project has taken about a year and a half to come together. Even though D. Myke’s debut album isn’t set to drop until the end of 2020, some of his songs, like Every Time and Don’t Be Lonely, are available to stream now on Spotify. When asked which platform musicians should use, D. Myke notes that he uses Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, and even Google Play. When it comes to exposure, however, D. Myke admits that Spotify is one of the best. “(Spotify) is extremely important. With all the streaming that is being done and how many people are using Spotify, it’s basically your catalog of music. Without it, it’s kind of hard to be relevant without any Spotify exposure.”
Another one of D. Myke’s biggest passions is his record label. “I am so blessed and lucky to work with the #1 production company in the world, 1500 or Nothin’. They have a resume that speaks for itself. They have too many Grammys to count within the company and I’m so blessed to have them working on this project with me.” When asked which artist he would like to work with the most, he says that it would “most definitely be Drake.”
When asked what it means to be truly successful, D. Myke shares that he wants his music to outlast him. “I want to have a bunch of #1 hits, but making music that is still listened to long after I’m gone is my greatest motivation. The biggest challenge is getting people to believe in you.” D. Myke is hoping to get a lot more people to believe in him by the end of this year when his debut album drops.
