A Singaporean tutor, Tan Jin Yan has been found guilty for taking part in a cheating plot to help students clear O-level exam papers with the help of concealed communication devices. She is sentenced for a jail term of 3 years and the inquiry against all her accomplices is yet to begin. In the year 2016, during the exam paper of the subjects namely English, Mathematics, and Science, answers were told to students with the help of skin-colored earphones. Tan Jin Yan sat in the exam as a private candidate and shared a live paper to students with the help of facetime. District Judge Kenneth Yap has sentenced her for three years in jail for undermining the principles of meritocracy. Also, the center’s principal, Poh Yuan Nie and her niece Fiona Poh Min accompanied her in the crime.
Apart from these two accomplices from Singapore, a Chinese national Feng Riwen also took part in the execution of this cheating plot but the trio has not yet been subjected to any inquiry. Another Chinese national, Mr. Dong Xin also helped the six students to meet Zeus in order to prepare them for the 2016 O-level examination. The contract between the two stated that for referring every student to the tuition centre, Poh Yuan Nie would be given $8000 and $10000 as admission fees. And in case the students failed, then no money will be charged. Before the start of the examination in 2016, wearable Bluetooth devices were placed on the students’ bodies. Tan has also served as a private math tutor in NYC in her early days of teaching and gained a reputation for her teaching skills.
Tan, who took part as a private candidate in the 2016 exam had stuck a camera phone under her clothes and used FaceTime to send images of the paper to her accomplice. With the help of Fiona Poh and Feng, answered were conveyed to the students to help them crack the O-level exam. Currently, she is out on bail of $20,000 and would start serving her sentence after she surrenders before the State Courts on the coming Monday.
