Two adolescent minors were left stranded by the Delta Airlines and Korean Air in South Korea. As per reports they were booted from their connecting flight to the Philippines because one of the teenage boys was having a peanut allergy.
Both the Delta Airlines and Korean Air apologized after the mother of the teens filed a complaint against the airlines. She has claimed a refund as she has earlier informed the airlines about the peanut allergy of her elder son and said that their apology does not suffice.
As per the Yahoo Lifestyle reports, the two brothers, aged 15 and 16, were traveling from Atlanta to Manila, after visiting their grandfather in the hospital in Atlanta, USA. Rakesh and Prajakta Patel, parents of the boys have said that an apology does not suffice as the situation could have been more fatal.
The flight journey of the boys started smoothly from Georgia to Seoul but their journey took a drastic turn when the boys were to board their second flight from Seoul to Manila in the Delta Air partner, Koran Air.
As per Yahoo reports, the mother of the boys had already informed Delta airlines about her son’s peanut allergy well ahead of their trip. But at the Seoul airport, the boys were told by the gate agent that peanuts will be served in the aircraft during the journey and they have either the option of boarding the plane or not to board the flight and miss the trip.
The boys decided to board the plane but were booted off by the gate agents. As per Prajakta, her sons were shoved to get off the aircraft as they were not allowed to board the flight.
The boys were shaken and were willing to sit at the back of the airplane with the elder brother, having the peanut allergy, wearing a mask. The airlines did not heed to their request and they were booted off the aircraft. The boys were left stranded at the airport with their parents in turmoil. The boys were told that they could fly a different carrier but due to the nut policy of Korean Air, they flew back to Atlanta, US and reached there after travelling for 39 hours.
Korean Air has offered their apologies to the parents of the boys saying that they regret Patel’s experience and it did not reflect the common values of Delta and Korean Air. They said that that it is not their style and they will try to do better in the future.
