NORMAN, Okla. – Jim Gallogly, a short-term president of the University of Oklahoma has announced his resignation on Sunday. His short tenure at the University of Oklahoma includes a bitter student protest against racism incidents on campus and sexual misconduct probing of its longtime former president.
According to the major University of Oklahoma donor and ex- energy industry CEO, Jim Gallogly, he has informed the University authorities that he wants to retire as soon as they find a transition plan in place. He was declared the president last July as a means of reinstituting the University of Oklahoma’ finances and was involved in the investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against the University’s former president David Boren who was a former United States’ senator and Oklahoma’s governor and presided over the institution for 24 years.
There have been a lot of praises for Gallogly ever since he announced his resignation, most of which were for improving the university’s finances, keeping tuition at a flat rate and approving a faculty pay raise all during his short term.
Republican Governor Kevin Stitt described him as an upstanding individual who led the University of Oklahoma through a financial crisis.
Despite many praises Gallogly received, several students and faculty members were not satisfied with his financial decisions, and he has also been criticized for his approach in handling a racist social media post last January.
Gallogly in his statement thanked the university and faculty staffs for aiding him to bring the university to stable financial grounds. He acknowledged his process and tenure wasn’t easy on the university’s administration but was a necessity.
