In the summer of 2017, along with his business partner, Todd Stephenson co-founded the now most popular custom sock designer company named “PupSocks”. At 17, he started a backpack company named “KIDDS” who donated its earnings to the less privileged children. Stephenson hails from the city of Naples in Florida and stamped his mark in the e-commerce industry. His hard work, talent and focus have helped the company rise to higher levels. PupSocks makes custom socks, blankets and ties for animals and pet owners have given them a resounding response online. The birth of the business idea:
While studying in the University of Central Florida, Stephenson along with his business partner used to run a chain of bakeries around the colleges in the city. They would remain open till 3 am and provide free delivery to students. Todd was a smart worker, and he came to learn about e-commerce. Without any proper market research, they ventured into the e-commerce market and were previously selling anything from a pin to piano or from stuffed teddy bears to camping gear. After market surveys and trends, Todd Stephenson realized that in future years the custom product industry would witness a boom and they launched many different customized products. However, the one which became an instant hit was PupSocks.
Keys factors to become an entrepreneur:
Stephenson believes that success is not about money; it is rather about freedom. Todd values freedom over money and believed in becoming an entrepreneur as he did not fancy being entangled to a typical 9 to 5 job.
Raising funds for PupSocks:
Todd and his partner were self-reliant in terms of the funding for their company, PupSocks. They started the website, made advertisements, with little capital. Todd optimally utilized the earnings from previous businesses and purchased some equipment.
Build a thriving customer base:
Stephenson did intense research on the section of the society who would be keen to purchase their product. He believes that a company must always find out its customer, which age group it belongs to, what is their preferences, etc. By getting to know your audience, you can invest aptly in ads and the marketing of your product, which hits specifically to a particular segment of consumer and it stimulates the consumer to buy the product.
