Seven clubs in the quarter-finals have qualified for the new Premier Senior championship next year. They are St Finbarr’s, Nemo Rangers, Ballincollig, Douglas, Clonakilty, Newcestown and Ilen Rovers. Plus the other clubs Carbery Rangers, Castlehaven, Valley Rovers, Bishopstown and Carrigaline will also join them. They have been picked up over the last four seasons based on the number of merit points. O’Donovan Rossa and Dohenys will be part of the new-look senior A championship next season. As per FootballPredictions.com, Skibbereen and Dunmanway are two football strongholds who are now officially dropping out of the top flight of the senior championship in 2020.
Along with the premier intermediate finalists, Senior A will also have 12 clubs, Rossas, Dohenys, St Nick’s, Clyda Rovers, Fermoy, Mallow, and Kiskeam in addition to the next three clubs in the order of merit. The Mahon club are clearly at the top of that merit table. All the big guns will play in Premier Senior. The championship resumed with a city quarter-final derby between St Michael’s and Na Piarsaigh on Friday at Páirc Uí Rinn at 7.30pm.
Also for the Sam Maguire Cup next season, bet of the day is that Cork footballers may have to reach the Munster final to play. Cork will play in division 3 for the first time. Croke Park’s Central Council have proposed a second tier football series that will be discussed at a Special Congress at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on October 19. It recommends that divisions 3 and 4 will enter a secondary championship instead of the qualifiers. This is only if they don’t reach their respective provincial finals.
