Sakichi Toyota converted Toyoda Automatic Loom Works into a textile machinery in 1924. And his first prototype came to play in 1935. In August 27th, 1937 the Toyota Motor Company became a name. The company has made 250 million cars till date, and it is the second largest car maker in the world.
It created some of the best motors in history. And here are a few worth mentioning.
Toyota AA (1936) – It was the first car of Toyota. It has a 3.4 litre, six cylinder engine which purred like a kitty. Only 1404 such cars exist. And given that it was the first home-made car in Japanese market, it had more demand.
Toyota AE (1939) – The AE is an upgraded version of the AA. On one hand when AA’s design was based on Chrysler Airflow. AE’s was an inspiration from Volvo PV-60. Also, It worked on a 46 hp, 2258cc four cylinder engine. And even though it borrowed designs from US, this piece became a crowd pleaser.
Toyota SA (1949) – Toyota sold small cars till 1960s but after the war it became a big gun in the motor industry. Toyota’s first post-war car was the SA. And it was endowed with a 995cc four cylinder engine. It was also made in fewer numbers in the following years. But later after getting inspiration from Autocar, it stared building more cars.
Toyota Land Cruiser(1955) – The Land Crusier is the Toyota’s version of the Land Rover. Now also this automobile has nine editions. It is an international favourite. Land cruiser lives up to its name. It is immensely durable which makes it reliable. It is best if you are going off the track.
Toyota Crown (1955) – Even when Toyota sold its first car in US it didn’t have the brand name. It was Toyopet. But when the US customers did not like the branding, the company got its due recognition. The first generation of Toyota Crown had 46 hp, 1453cc engine. Now the car has almost 14 generations.
