Toyota has announced that it will recall more than 7,000 vehicles due to the faulty brake booster. The recalled vehicles also include many hybrids. The faulty brake booster in these vehicles can cause malfunctioning of car brakes. The recall made by Toyota is affecting mostly 2019 model cars that include Toyota Prius, Prius Prime, and RAV4 Hybrid. There are also some small models of 2020 Toyota Prius Prime and 2020 Corolla hybrids included in the recalled vehicles.
Some vehicles of 2019 versions are also affected, such as Lexus UX 250H, LC 500H, LS 500h, and ES 300H hybrids. The number for 2019 versions are smaller as compared to Toyota hybrids. Toyota has filed paperwork with federal regulators that says, misshaped small brushes in the brake booster pump were improperly installed. Those brushes can be stuck in the holder and can cause the motor pump to stop operating. If such a condition occurs, the braking assist could stop and stability control system can get disabled.
The first time Toyota discovered the issue was in May 2019 and decided to tell the affected owners about the issue through several Toyota Dealership. According to Toyota, one in every four cars can have the faulty brake booster, but the company has not yet reported any crash or injury due to the defect, except one complaint that was registered with federal authorities about Corolla crash due to faulty brakes. Toyota has also said that it would replace the faulty brake booster free of cost.
