US President Donald Trump says he would veto the resolution which cancels his national emergency declaration at the Mexican border.
The resolution, which was recently approved by the House of Representatives, was basically designed to revoke Trump from securing funds to build his proposed border fencing.
The White House says that Trump intends to secure money from the Treasury as well as military to funnel funds for building the wall.
During a recent interview with Fox News, the president said that he thinks it’s dangerous for any person, including Republicans to vote against border safety and that if the resolution does happen to make it to his desk, he would veto it.
The House passed the resolution on Tuesday with a vote of 245-182. The Democrats were joined by 13 Republicans to vote in favour of it. Now, the resolution is headed to the Senate for a vote.
Republican senators R-Alaska, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski have indicated that they would back the resolution. Assuming that all 47 Democrats cast a vote in favour of the resolution then just 4 Grand Old Party (GOP) senators shall be required to attain the remaining 51 votes needed for it to pass the Senate and reach the president’s desk.
Notably, the national emergency was declared by Trump on 15 February.
