In an interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump of the United States has vowed never to let Iran lay its hands on nuclear weapons, albeit he is not ready to go to war with them. This statement has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to suppress Iran’s nuclear proliferation due to threats to United States assets in the Middle East. All through the interview, he maintained his stand against military intervention like he did during his campaign in 2016, although he hinted that the development of Iranian nuclear weapons might be an unavoidable exception.
He explained that he is bent on avoiding war because the costs and effects of it, such as economic downfall and the loss of lives are not what he is ready to bear.
He further went ahead to invite Iran to reach a consensus and reduce the pressure which has been on him ever since his decision to exit the nuclear deal with the Obama administration. He explained that he ended the nuclear deal because it is hurting the economy.
Due to President Donald Trump’s decision, he is facing new criticisms from Democrats over his exit from the deal in 2018 while a large percentage of 2020 presidential candidates in the Democrats have vowed to reinstate the deal. Among those who made the promise is Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Vice President Joe Biden.
The U.S-Iran Nuclear deal was crafted during Joe Biden’s regime as vice president, and he has derided the president for wiping out “years” of progress regarding nuclear weapons with Iran. He is anticipated to further fan the embers of discord over it as the elections approach.
