WASHINGTON – 2019 Thales Data Threat Report has highlighted that with the embracement of new technologies, such as big data and multi-cloud deployments, implementing proper data security has become a major challenge. According to the report, over 95% of people from federal agencies make use of sensitive data within digital transformation technology environments. The use of such digital technologies such as big data, mobile payments, social media, blockchain, and IoT is expected to increase in the coming years. Hence, flexible and consolidated security platforms are required to use data encryption to manage complexity regarding data security while using such digital technologies.
Nick Jovanovic, VP, federal, Thales Cloud Protection & Licensing said that long-standing vulnerabilities such as limited use of data encryption and ignorance of privileged user policies were the popular reasons for an increment in security problems with digital transformation. The data security has become a serious issue in the US as 60% of respondents witnessed a data breach and 35% also faced the same problem the previous year. Data recovery specialists have claimed through the report that 78% of respondents use sensitive data in multi-cloud environments.
Managing data breaches, addressing privacy requirements and avoidance of data breach penalties are some of the least prioritize subjects of data security. And over 80% of agencies who follow security-related laws and initiatives feel vulnerable on this subject. To deal with such challenges, strategies such as encryption and tokenization should be followed to administer such concerns.
