The Real Simba is an up-and-coming artist today who was raised in Mount Vernon, New York, but was born in Jamaica, which is where he spent the first 7 years of his life. Finding a passion for music at an early age, Simba was exposed to a wide range of genres upon his arrival into the United States, and has always seen music as a way to express himself and deal with stress and burnout.
Throughout his time in the music industry, Simba has realized that respect, honesty, and persistence go a long way, and are the driving principles for how he navigates his career. He states:
“I’ve realized the first rule of anything you do is to respect the opportunity and people you’re working with. Be honest and upfront with the people you work with– it allows you to learn and grow, but most important, being honest with yourself.”
At this point in his career, Simba has had his music sponsored by the NBA and ESPN, had an XXL magazine placement, gotten radio play on Power 105 and Hot 97, was artist of the year for the ARS radio station, and had his song chart at 40 on the Top 200 Hip Hop/Rap list. Even though he’s found success so far in his career, he keeps his eyes focused on the future and is excited for what has yet to come.
To those coming up today, he stresses the importance of dedication, hard work, and patience. He indicates that to make it in the industry, it will take a lot of work, and that nothing happens instantaneously. Above all, he notes that you must never give up, hold on to your passion, and have faith in yourself and trust in God.
